Kinesthetic - with the team they had to create a paper chain, BUT they could only use 1 hand, and were not allow to speak at all. Students were asked to rotate through 7 centers, with each activity focused on a different form of Intelligence. With just a few popsicle sticks, rubber bands and sporks, they were able to engineer a working launcher!Īs a way to kick off the year in GT, we took a look at the theory of Multiple Intelligences. We are also welcoming our new GT Students who qualified last semester! In order to get to know each other a little better, we kicked off the semester with a STEM Challenge - Can you use materials provided to build a Snowball Launcher that will launch a snowball the farthest? This was quite the challenge, as students were not allowed to use scissors, adhesives, or alter the materials in any way. Sometimes what we do in GT is hard - it's supposed to be! Be kind to yourself and remember that we can always learn from failure. Listen when spoken to, use nice words, hands to ourselves, help when you can As we ease back into our regular schedule after Winter Break, it's important to review expectations for the GATE Classroom.
